Tong Yuen is a Chinese dessert consisting glutinous rice paste balls stuffed with crushed peanut and soaked in either sugar syrup or light sugar water be it cold or warm. Recently, I had the opportunity to try out this dessert again, only this time with a twist. These balls were soaked in warm fresh soya milk and it was a perfect combination for a hot dessert on a cool day. It was a rainy night and I sat outside Pappa Rich Cyberjaya to enjoy this dessert. It was warm and the soya milk tasted as if it was freshly made there, I guess the rawness of the freshly brewed soya beans made it obvious-in a good way of course. The natural taste is nice by itself but for those who enjoy a bit of sweetness, it comes with palm sugar syrup as an accompaniment. Quite a perfect blend for a perfect night.
